It’s Ash Wednesday here at 1428 Elm so you know what that means? We celebrate everything that is Bruce Campbell. This week we dive into some of his lesser known but still awesome quotes from his vast body of work.
The Hot List
“Oh, I’ll be polite. Right up until I’m rude.”
(Ash vs Evil Dead, “Bait”, S01 E02)
One of my personal favorites from this character and is applicable in so many real-life situations. Not ashamed to admit it, I used this quote fairly recently.
“Looking good, looking sweet! Uhuhuh!”
(Ash vs Evil Dead, “El Jefe”, S01 E01)
Yep. Who hasn’t said this while looking at their reflection in the mirror especially the morning after a pub crawl? Good times. This is why we all love Ash!
“Always the questions. Never the answers. Always the hopes… never the fulfillments.”
This particular sentiment resonates deeply with me. Elvis is reflecting on the good and bad events in his life. At one time or another, we have all felt this way. What a beautiful observation and deeply moving.
“I think it’s time for him to meet Chuck Finley. Now, *that’s* a code name.”
Chuck Finley has got to be the most famous cover ID EVER. When he shows up to play, you know Michael Westen things are going to start happening.
More Fun Favorites
“You don’t know fear, kid. You’ve never worked with Sam Raimi.”
(My Name is Bruce)
God help me, but I love this movie. So many good lines to choose from, it was hard to decide on just one. However, this is brilliant! If you don’t get the reference, read Bruce’s hysterical memoirs, “If Chins Could Kill.”
“Your stupidity is terminal. And now you’re cured.”
Yet another apropos quote that could be used in real life. I am seriously going to contemplate this one the next time I am at the grocery store. Thank you, Dr. Ivan Hood!
This is a perfect comeback for those situations when someone thinks their skills are formidable when in reality they are just, “meh.”
Short Lived but Still in Our Hearts
“It’s a beautiful day, and the scent of violence is in the air.”
(Jack of All Trades)
It doesn’t get much better than this one, folks! I really dug this show and part of the reason was Jack Stiles. With Campbell’s delivery, I was reminded of Cary Grant during his screwball comedy heydays.
“Well, expectations lead to disappointment, Socrates. That’s why I try not to have any.”
(The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.)
This is a good philosophy to have in life. To the point with its “truthiness.”
That was fun looking back at some of the iconic roles that Bruce Campbell has created throughout his career. Who knew these characters could impart so much wisdom? Now, to dust off an old chestnut but it seems befitting, “Hail to the King, baby!”
