Rail services to and from Southport have been disrupted after a body was found near the tracks in Crosby.
British Transport Police has now confirmed that a person has died and that they are working to identify them.
Mersyrail services had been suspended between Formby and Seaforth & Litherland after a driver reported seeing the body at a crossing near Brooke Road West.
Officers have now attended the scene and have reported the death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.
Limited services will now run from Southport and Hunts Cross, with a rail replacement service arranged to run between Formby and Seaforth & Litherland.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “We were called at 10.18am today to reports that a body had been seen by a train driver near the tracks in Crosby, Merseyside.
“We’re currently in attendance at a crossing near Brooke Road West.
“Sadly, a person has been found deceased at the scene.
“The death is currently being treated as unexplained and we are working to establish the circumstances of how the person came to be there.
“We are also working to identify the person and inform their next of kin.”
