The mobile catering van was extensively damaged in the early morning blaze. Police are now appealing for information. Picture: Callum MackayPOLICE in Ross-shire are probing an “unexplained” fire which ripped through a mobile catering van in an A9 lay-by in the county.

The blaze was discovered in the early hours of the morning today close to the Cromarty Bridge.

Emergency services were called to the fire at 4.44am.

The fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and nobody was injured.

A statement from police said the catering van had been extensively damaged as a result of the fire, “which is currently being treated as unexplained”.

Detective Constable John Beverly said: “We are looking to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time who may have information which could help us establish what has happened.”
