A man found in a park was rushed to hospital with a bleed on the brain after suffering an unexplained head injury.

Officers are investigating after a man in his 20s was found off Valentine Road in Newton-le-Willows shortly after 5pm on Monday.

Police and paramedics worked to treat the man at the scene before he was rushed to Whiston hospital .

The circumstances around how the man sustained his injuries are not clear but his condition is currently described as serious.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “We can confirm that we are investigating after a man was found with unexplained injuries in the Newton-le-Willows area on Monday evening (4 December 2017).

“The man, who is aged in his 20s, was found with a head injury on a park off Valentine Road shortly after 5pm.

“Police officers and paramedics treated him at the scene before he was taken by ambulance to Whiston Hospital where he has been found to have a bleed on the brain.

“His condition is described as serious but stable at this time.”

Local patrol officers along with detectives are carrying out enquiries in the area to establish what happened.
