A mum-of-three who dreams of a career in events is running her very first – a Fairytale Ball in Plymouth.

Michelle Wimpenny, 36, from Keyham, will be holding a grand ball for children in the Guildhall in the centre of the city this February.

Inspired by her own children who love everything princess-related, she will be running two hours of fun with music, mascots, games, challenges and prizes.

Michelle, who works in a popular mobile phone shop, said: “I wanted to do something big for the children of Plymouth. I was at an event in the Guildhall and looking around I was thinking, this would be amazing to hold a ball in.

“I just don’t think there’s much around in the city on that kind of scale for youngsters.

“I was a bit anxious but I discussed it with a few people and they thought it was a great idea.”

She added: “It’ll be my very first event so it’s quite scary but exciting at the same time. My husband’s been making things for me too.”

Characters Belle, Elsa and Anna, Aroura, Cinderella, Moana, Ariel, Jasmine, Merida, Snow White, Tinkerbell and Spiderman will be on hand to greet the children and their families on the day.

From 1pm to 3pm on February 24, there will be performances by the characters, songs, dancing, princess or hero training and a variety of games and activities organised and created by Michelle herself.

These include: ballroom freeze, gem sifting, glitter tattoos, bouncy castle and soft play for the little ones.

Children can also enjoy hair braiding, small local business stalls, sticking the horn on unicorn and tumble Rapunzel’s tower as well as crown making, a magic carpet ride, hook a hook and Ariel’s treasure cove lucky dip.
