When a young player breaks into the first team you might expect them to be a bit timid and reserved – especially at a club with the amount of history and pressure that comes with breaking into the Arsenal senior set up.
But Rob Holding is showing no signs of such pressure. On the field, despite a slow start to the season he is still playing well beyond his 21 years in the centre of Arsenal’s defence.
Off the pitch, he seems totally relaxed and has even felt comfortable enough to take the mick out of an older member of the team like Aaron Ramsey.
The Welshman was speaking to The Times this weekend and was asked about his awareness of the phenomenon that is Arsenal Fan TV.
Although Ramsey says he does not watch it himself, he let slip that Holding is among its viewers and that a segment in one episode even inspired the defender to give Ramsey a new nickname.
“I don’t watch it though I’ve been called a ham roll on there or something,” Ramsey stated.
“Is it a good thing or bad thing? I haven’t a clue, mate. But Rob Holding calls me ham roll now.”
For the uninitiated, “ham roll” is a favourite expression of Arsenal Fan TV regular Troopz during his regular rants.
Back in May following Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Southampton, he wrapped up one of his rants with the declaration: “I have to big up Aaron “Ham Roll” Ramsey, fam.”
And so a beautiful nickname was born.
